Some People Have Photographic Memories. I Have This Site.
Some people have photographic memories. Others recall little details like it's a reflex. That's never been my gift, but I found that my camera is the tool that fills the gap.
These little snapshots freeze moments I'd otherwise lose. The more we traveled, the more photos I took. Eventually, they needed a home.
Photography has been an evolving passion since I was a teenager. I had a few first-generation digital cameras when digital was in its infancy, 1–2MP sensors that produced decent amateur shots but never quite looked like the real thing.
Then in 2009 I got my first RAW point-and-shoot, a Canon S90. A friend introduced me to Lightroom (thanks ARS) and I dove in. The exposure triangle, composition, light, color. Everything got more interesting fast.
The more I learned, the more I pushed my gear to its limits. Each upgrade opened new doors. I was experimenting and progressing. The amateur shots started looking a little less amateur, but life got busy and I lost a little momentum.
Cameras sat on shelves longer than I'd like to admit.
During the pandemic, the world rediscovered hobbies. Sourdough baking exploded. Crochet needles flew off shelves. For me, photography came back into focus.
When we started traveling frequently in 2023, I found myself documenting everything. New cities, new landscapes, new light. Turns out new places are endlessly inspiring. I took thousands of photos and 99% were shit. But from every thousand, a few keepers emerged. Patterns started to appear in what I wanted to shoot and how I wanted it to look. Eventually I had more than a few keepers.
They needed a home that wasn't Instagram.
I've long wanted to build this. It never felt right until recently, when the photos sorted themselves into something coherent. Nature, places, people, things. Suddenly there was enough to build something real.
The galleries will grow as we explore, and this blog will follow along. New places, new experiences, the things that catch my eye.
If you want to follow along, you can sign up below. I won’t be posting often — just updates when there's something worth sharing.
Photography is how I remember. This site is where I keep the memories.
